Men face many challenges that are not spoken about. These challenges often manifest in a male malaise, where men feel apathetic and frustrated.
Jon Tyson, a New York City pastor and author of a new book entitled Fighting Shadows: Overcoming 7 Lies That Keep Men From Becoming Fully Alive, has spent a lot of time thinking about the issues men face. I speak to Jon Tyson about the causes of male angst in today's episode. He is the co-author and researcher of the new book Fighting Shadows: Overcoming Seven Lies that Keep Men from Becoming Fully Alive.
Jon and I talk about how men try to fix their problems and why they don't succeed. We explore the various shadows that men face in their daily lives. These include the shadows associated with despair, loneliness and unhealthy ambition. Jon gives some advice on how to deal with these shadows. He suggests sitting around the fire pit with your brothers, developing your telos (or aim) as a male, and adding a little more playfulness to your life in order to combat grumpy father syndrome.
