A man's ability to adapt to any situation is an important part of his masculinity. We'll be republishing an illustrated guide from our archive every Sunday so that you can improve your manly knowledge week by week.

A roaring fire is the perfect way to end a long day. The summer heat makes it uncomfortable to sit around the perfect fires that end the day. There's an easier way to create a fire for the summer that will allow you to enjoy its smell, glow and crackle without breaking a sweat.

The first step in building a summer fireplace is to find the right wood. A summer fire requires that you begin with green, unseasoned, wood. Your green logs should ideally come from slow-burning wood species like white oak or birch. Also, it's best if the logs are whole and uncut. This wood will not burn as brightly, or as hotly. You can enjoy a warm fire in summer by following the tips above.
