Podcast #865: How to Win Friends and Influence People in the 21st Century

Note: This is an old broadcast.

My 12-year-old has done a challenge each week for the past year as a rite and a chance to earn an extra trip. Some of the challenges involved him reading a whole book in a single week. The most recent one was How to Win Friends & Influece People by Dale Carnegie. What was his review? He said that it was the best novel he has read.

A book that was written nearly 90 years ago is still a favorite among children in the 21st Century. What a testament to the book's longevity.

How to Win Friends and Influence People and Dale Carnegie’s other classic How to Stop Worrying & Start Living are timeless. Joe Hart has co-authored Take Command which is a book that synthesizes and updates Carnegie's classics. Joe Hart is the president and CEO of Dale Carnegie & Associates which continues Carnegie's legacy today. We begin our discussion with a little background about the man who started this work in 1936. Then we discuss the principles that can be taken from How to Stop worrying and Start Living to develop a positive attitude. We then discuss the overarching principle from How to Win friends & Influence people and how it can be used to improve relationships. Our conversation ends with some advice on how you can live your life more intentionally and meaningfully.
