Valet. Since 2008, I have been reading this men's lifestyle website. Around the same time that AoM launched. Valet's Morning Report has become a part of my daily routine. I enjoy checking out the curated list of five cool links that are worth exploring. Their product reviews are also very useful. I've learned some great style and grooming tips from them over the years that haven't cost me a fortune. Valet also has a vast archive of useful content that is still relevant on how to upgrade your wardrobe, grooming regimen, and fitness regime. It's a great resource for men's lifestyle information without all the hype.
Ka-Bar Marine Corps Knife. Since World War II, the Marine Corps has used the Ka-Bar Knife. The leather handle is comfortable and provides a good grip, even when wet. It makes you feel like a badass. I keep one of these in my bug out bag.
The Line Man's Bible, A Football Textbook with Detailed Instructions by Ernest Graves This gem was discovered while reading Dwight Eisenhower's biography. This old-school football guide, published by Ernest Graves who was the coach at West Point during Eisenhower's time there, goes beyond Xs and os for linemen. Graves' military experiences and high-level successes are regularly incorporated into the book, even though the main focus is on football technique and strategy. The book is particularly interesting because it shows how many of Graves’ principles, such as persistence, disciplined preparation, and attention to detail would later be incorporated into Eisenhower’s leadership philosophy.
Remember when Barry Bonds set the record for most home runs in a single season? Have you ever wondered who was the lucky one to catch that potentially lucrative and historic ball? The documentary Up for Grabs tells about that famous ball, and the two men involved in the most hilarious and heart-wrenchingly sad legal battle of all time. This film was used by my property law professor to introduce us the famous textbook case Pierson v. Post in which a New York judge had to decide whether a dead fox could be considered in possession. The dead fox from Pierson has been replaced with Barry Bonds's home run ball in Up for Grabs. Up for Grabs, a comedy morality play, is about the dangers that greed and myopia can bring into a man’s life.
