Imagine that a major natural or man-made disaster knocks your power and water out. It will be a while before the grid is back up, and government aid won't arrive for some time. You should be prepared for such a scenario by stocking emergency water in your bug-in supply. If you are unprepared, and you need water to drink and cook with, you're still not out of luck. You can find water at home and in the surrounding area.
This guide highlights six different sources of water that is drinkable. The water from these sources is likely to be potable, except for rain gutters and aquariums/koi-ponds. This also applies to the toilet tank, unless you have added cleaning tablets. If in doubt, you should always boil or filter water before drinking it.
Swimming pools also have water, but to make it drinkable, you need a multi-step, heavy duty filtration system to remove contaminants and chlorine.
You can also find hidden water in canned fruits and vegetables. However, the water can be very salty.
