How to Tie a Lasso

What man hasn’t dreamed of being a cowboy in the open range?

When you imagine being a cowboy you probably picture yourself swinging your lasso over your head and catching stray dogs.

In the 18th and early 19th centuries, Mexican vaqueros invented the lasso or lariat that we use today. The lasso was a tool that American cowboys used to punch cows in the American West.

The lasso is not only used in North America. Ancient Egyptians, Mongolians, and Persian warriors all used lassos in their battles.

The lasso can be considered a masculine tool. Today we will show you how it's tied.

The honda knot is at the core of every lasso. The honda knot creates a small loop, which is then passed through to create a larger loop. This can be easily tightened or loosened.

It is important that you choose a rope stiff enough to maintain the shape of your lasso when you are throwing it. Traditional lassos are made from rawhide rope or manila (check out this article about rope materials!). Cowboys today use nylon or polypropylene ropes, which are very durable.

You'll soon be able to join Gus and Woodrow on the Lonesome Dove Trail.
