Podcast #1,016: Unlock Better Sleep and Health by Harnessing Your Circadian Rhythm

Your body has a circadian clock, and you probably believe it is primarily responsible for regulating sleep/wake cycles. This is true. Your body's internal timer also controls many physical, mental and behavioral changes every 24 hours. Working with your circadian clock, instead of against it, will boost your happiness and health.

Russell Foster, professor of circadian neurology and author of Life Time: Your Body Clock & Its Essential Roles In Good Health & Sleep will explain how you can do this. We begin our discussion by discussing the science behind circadian rhythm, its relationship to light exposure and how it affects us. Then we discuss the practical implications that come with having an internal timer, such as whether or not you should worry about blue light exposure at night. We also talk about the mental and physical effects of working night shifts and what you can do to minimize them.
